Evan & Olena Slobodnychenko
Evan was born into an unbelieving family in Chornomorsk, Southern Ukraine. At the age of 15, he started to attend a ministry for teenagers in a local church. After a few years of attending that ministry, he decided to follow God. He started to grow spiritually and began serving in youth ministry.
In 2022, Evan moved to Ternopil. When the full-scale war began, he was working as an Executive Director of a non-profit organization that helped refugees and local people in different ways. Evan never thought he would serve God through full-time ministry, but he came to understand that God had his own plan. In 2024, Evan answered God’s call to serve as a full-time missionary with JV.
Olena was born in Ternopil, Ukraine and has lived there her whole life. Olena became acquainted with Josiah Venture (JV) through an English camp in 2009. The following year, she went to an English camp again and accepted Christ there. She was invited to a youth group, which eventually became Philadelphia Church. There, she started to grow as a Christian and learned how to serve others. Her life turned into an exciting journey with God, which also led to being a Ukrainian intern with JV in 2015 and 2016. This was a time when God revealed His calling on her life and Camps ministry became one of her passions.
In 2022 Olena and Evan met in Ternopil due to the war circumstances and got married in 2023. Olena and Evan now serve together in the Camps ministry. Olena is the Camps team co-director and Evan helps to equip and care for local churches and summer interns. They also both serve in youth ministry at their local church.
